Commerce events: auto or manual

Commerce events are things like “viewed a product”, “added to cart”, “started checkout” and “placed an order”. Quomerce builds the funnel from them. They come from one of two places, set by the commerce option of init:

auto (the default) manual
Where events come from Detected: your GA4 dataLayer, page types, add-to-cart buttons and requests, your own rules Only your qm.commerce calls
qm.commerce calls Ignored Sent, exactly as written
Code needed None One call per event
Best for Shops that already send GA4 e-commerce events, and shops on WooCommerce, PrestaShop or Shopify Custom shops that want full control and exact data
qm("init", { key: "pk_live_…" }); // auto
qm("init", { key: "pk_live_…", commerce: "manual" }); // manual
  • Only your code sets the mode. No setting in Quomerce changes it. Install & setup shows which mode your pages report, and warns if it changed in the last 7 days.
  • Custom events (qm.track) and everything recorded automatically work in both modes.
  • Every commerce event records where it came from: manual, datalayer, rule or platform. Install & setup shows the counts per source.
  • auto mode cannot see everything. It detects no payment redirect, no payment return and no rejected coupon. Funnel step 5 (“Went to payment”) stays empty unless you add a rule for it. See Auto mode.
  • Orders from the browser can be missed. A buyer who closes the tab on the payment page never reaches your confirmation page, so no purchase event is sent in either mode.
  • Your shop pushes GA4 e-commerce events (through gtag() or Google Tag Manager)? Use auto. You are done.
  • Your shop runs on WooCommerce, PrestaShop or Shopify without GA4 e-commerce? Start with auto. Built-in rules catch add-to-cart, and page types catch cart, checkout and order pages. Add your own rules for the rest.
  • You build the shop yourself and can add a line of code per event? Use manual. You get the full product, cart and order data on every event.
